As you can see, this licorice comes in several fun and fruity flavors, including: Watermelon, Green Apple, Blasted Berry, Huckleberry, and Blueberry Pomegranate. I like that their licorice comes in resealable bags. This keeps the licorice fresh and makes Wiley Wallaby an easy snack to take along on your summer adventures.

Each piece of Wiley Wallaby licorice is short and thick. Like the package states, it has a “soft & chewy” consistency. In my opinion, what makes this licorice stand out is that the fruit flavors really come through. The watermelon flavor really does taste like watermelon!

I am a fan of sour candies, and Wiley Wallaby Sourrageous Drops definitely bring the sour. I like the blend of flavors: Lemon, Green Apple and Watermelon. This would be a good bag to bring to the movie theater (if and when you are ready for that type of activity).

Summer Vacation in Seattle

We originally planned a family trip to Seattle in March 2020. Unfortunately, we had to cancel (for obvious reasons) but we re-booked and went last week. D and I had visited the Emerald City once before, pre-kids. It was fun to introduce the kids to the sights we had been to and experience new ones as well. I did my usual thorough travel-planning and we had a packed 6 days/5 nights. If you are considering a visit to Seattle, I highly recommend it!

Flying Alaska Airlines During Covid

I know some people are still weary about air travel right now, but I felt comfortable. We brought sanitizing wipes for the airplane seats and sprayed our hands with hand sanitizer often. All of our fellow passengers dutifully wore their masks, and the flight attendants reminded people to cover their noses.

I thought everything was going smoothly and our plane would take off on time. However, after waiting on the runway for a while, the pilot made an announcement that we had to turn around and go back to our gate. Our plane had been re-routed due to heavy air traffic so we needed a fill-up of more than 1,000 pounds of additional fuel! The whole process delayed us by about an hour. I felt sorry for the passengers who had a connecting flight.

We flew on Alaska Airlines and this was our snack.

The snack mix on our way home included plane-shaped pretzels. Cute, right?

Seattle Light Rail

Instead of renting a car, we relied on public transportation and walking. Lots of walking.

Seattle’s light rail system took us straight from SEA-TAC airport to a block away from our hotel.

Courtyard Marriott Seattle Downtown/Pioneer Square

The Courtyard by Marriott Seattle Downtown/Pioneer Square proved to be an excellent home base for our exploration of the city. I really appreciated being able to walk to many attractions and that the light rail station was so close by. Shout out to Raul, who was at the front desk and checked us in. His enthusiastic love for the city was quite evident and welcoming.

I am not sure if it is because we had a corner unit, but our room was larger than I expected.

One thing that we were not prepared for during this Covid time was that housekeeping needed to be requested. D was able to do this easily by texting the front desk through the Marriott app. (He was also able to reserve the fitness room and the pool through the app which was very convenient). We just requested our basic needs: fresh towels, emptying of trash bins and coffee.

It is always nice to have a refrigerator and microwave. This coffee machine also received a lot of use even though we had plenty of coffee-drinking opportunities elsewhere.

I don’t think we ever heard any noise from other hotel guests during our entire stay. However, the noise from the streets (trash trucks, alarms, random yelling) was pretty loud at times. That’s life in the big city, I guess.

Our view wasn’t the greatest, but I kind of liked this window facing a brick wall. k said it had character. I ended up taking a lot of food pics here, as you will see in future posts. More to come…

The Brown Sugar Shortbread cookies pair nicely with a cup of afternoon tea.

I followed the suggestion on the package of the Chocolate Chunk cookies, and put them in our toaster oven for 3 minutes at 250F. There is nothing like a warm cookie with melty chocolate paired with a glass of cold milk!

My kids agree that Real Treat Pantry Cookies are a welcome after school treat. (They would also make a delectable summer afternoon treat as well!)

My husband employs a minimalist approach to his wardrobe. He has a set amount of jeans and khaki pants/shorts which he wears everywhere: home, work (both in the office and now at his “home” office), as well as when we are out and about. Enjoy Quick and Healthy Family Meals From Luna Grill

Recently, dining alfresco in our cozy backyard has become one of my favorite ways to connect as a family. I find that we feel more relaxed when we eat together outside, and that the conversation is more free-flowing.

One great option for healthy takeout that my family especially enjoys for a special meal together is Luna Grill.  Luna Grill is a Mediterranean fast-casual chain in California and Texas that serves grilled kabob plates, offers individual plates, bowls and pitas, as well as convenient Family Meals, with options that serve 4-6.

We recently ordered a Luna Grill Family Meal online and it was so nice to enjoy a freshly made meal that I did not have to cook!  Each Family Meal includes:

  • Your choice of kabob (Chicken, Gyro Meat, Sirloin, Veggie, Bistro Filet)
  • Salad (House, Mediterranean, Modern Greek)
  • Dip/Sauce (Tzatziki, Spicy Tzatziki, Chipotle Sauce, Hummus, Spicy Hummus, Garlic Feta Dip, Schug)
  • Pita
  • Rice

This is the Family Meal for 4, and as you can see, it includes a good amount of food.  We ordered both the chicken and sirloin kabobs, which were flavorful and tender. Each kabob is grilled fresh to order over an open flame using their special method to preserve the juices and flavor. My kids surprised themselves and said they liked the squash in the veggie kabobs!

For salads, we upgraded to the Modern Greek salad, which looked like a work of art. This salad included a rainbow of fresh vegetables and came with a tasty house vinaigrette. There was plenty of fluffy basmati rice (probably enough for 8!). Finally, it was difficult to choose a sauce since all of the options sounded delicious. However, we can definitely say the tzatziki is a winner–it complemented everything, including the pillowy pita bread. Luna Grill makes their tzatziki in house daily using yogurt, fresh mint, cucumber and more.

Luna Grill’s Family Meals are the perfect solution for your next gathering. I placed my order online and it was ready when I arrived at the restaurant. While I was there, I saw that they offer delivery so next time I’m going to give that a try! The kabobs were steaming hot and you could tell that they were grilled fresh to order. Too much screen time is something that everyone in our family struggles with. It seems that we are not alone in this battle, as there is a statistic that COVID-19 has caused a 500% increase in screen time for kids. On top of “required” screen time necessary for school and work, we also turn to our screens for entertainment.

I was astounded to find out that we have twenty-four such devices between our four family members. I had never bothered to count them before, so that was a real eye-opener.

I installed the Circle App on my phone which allows me to manage the connected devices even when I am not at home.

As you can see here, there is a bedtime feature that allows the internet connection to be turned on/off at whatever time you choose. There are also age-appropriate filters that can help prevent unwanted harmful content from entering your home through the internet.

You can even pause or temporarily turn off internet connectivity for a single family member or everyone at once. That would be a fast way to send a message!

There is also a feature called Focus Time that restricts access to certain sites for specific time periods where your student is supposed to distance learning of doing homework.

For my family, I think the best part about Circle Home Plus is that it monitors our internet usage and that we have the freedom to easily make adjustments according to our needs. While I want our family to be able to rely on the internet as a useful tool, my goal is for it not to be the master of our lives.

Sampling Sam’s Famous Salsa

I had so much fun attending the Online Nourished Festival a few weeks ago. I always enjoy hearing about new allergen-friendly products and learning about ways to live a healthier lifestyle. One of the brands that I discovered was Sam’s Famous Salsa. According to the website, their salsas originated with a family recipe that is over one hundred years old!

Sam’s Famous Salsa comes in three different heat levels: Mild, Medium and Hot. I am not sure if my family is just used to spicy foods, but we thought the Medium tasted more like Mild and that the Hot tasted more like Medium.

Due to the use of fresh ingredients, Sam’s Famous Salsa needs to be kept refrigerated. They do not use any artificial flavors or preservatives and it is quite evident in the taste! I thought the texture of the salsa was just perfect-a little chunky, but easy to scoop up with some tortilla chips. We also tried the salsas with quesadillas and they added a real flavor punch. This salsa seriously did not last long in my house; my family gobbled it up.
