Rolling Along

We’re slowly getting into a routine around here. My mom helped k get ready for some Easter activities this week. On Tuesday she hid plastic eggs for k in the living room so k would know what to do this weekend. Today she brought over hardboiled eggs for k to dye.

Our Little n

Today is n’s 3 week birthday. We are having fun gradually getting to know him. Here are some random observations:
He has really light eyebrows.
He has a dimple on his left cheek.
He gets the hiccups multiple times a day. (He used to get them a lot in utero, too).
He doesn’t like baths or diaper changes.
He has a seemingly endless appetite.

Family Visit

Unfortunate timing. D’s sister came to visit us a couple of weeks ago, thinking she would see baby n, but unfortunately, he wasn’t born until the next day. The trip wasn’t a total loss, since she had other business to take care of, but still. Then, D’s brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and parents booked flights to see baby n last Thurs…the day k landed in the hospital! Wow, the timing could not have been worse. Of course, it was no one’s fault, as life is just unpredictable. D’s family was very understanding of us spending most of our time in the hospital during their stay. At least we were able to go out to dinner with them, and D was able to show his parents around Dana Point and Laguna one day.

Back in the Hospital

Little did we know when we left the hospital with n that we would be back 8 days later. The reason? k’s pediatrician suspected she had Kawasaki’s disease. He was right, and she had to stay at Long Beach Memorial from Thursday-Sunday! This was especially difficult since I could not stay overnight with her since I had to take care of n. My mom ended up staying Thurs. night and Sat. night and D stayed on Fri. night. We also took turns during the day. I am happy to report that k responded well to her treatment. However, she will continue to be monitored by a cardiologist. Thank you for all of your prayers for our family!

Poor thing. This was actually taken on the last day of her stay, when she was feeling better. Before her IVIG treatment, she was miserable!

Hospital
This is where my mom and D had to sleep. (It folds out to a bed). n didn’t cause too many problems at the hospital. He had his milk (from me), slept, and we just had to change his diapers.

Week 1

I can’t believe it has been a week since n was born. It simultaneously seems like a short and long time ago. On Friday we took n to his first doctor’s appointment. He had lost a good amount of weight since my milk had just come in the day before. (The same thing had happened with k). I wasn’t as worried, since we had previous experience with k. However, when we got home, my mom brought k over and told us she had noticed k had a rash. I gave her some Benadryl and thought things were OK, but the next day, it was still there, so D brought her to the doctor. Long story short, k has been staying with my parents since Sat. since she has some sort of virus, and we don’t want n to get sick. I feel bad because I want to spend time with k, especially since she hadn’t been adjusting very well to n coming home. I can’t wait for everyone to be healthy and thriving so that we can all spend time together. Meanwhile, D went back to work today–his time off flew by really fast.

D + L + k + …n!

If you’re not part of our family or facebook circle, you might be wondering if I’m still pregnant, nine days overdue! Well, the good news is that baby n finally did come out on Monday, six days past his due date.

Here are the stats:
Nathan Kenji Lim
March 16, 2009
6:41 p.m.
7 lb, 11 oz.
22 inches

D took this picture of n being given a bath in the nursery.

n’s forehead was bruised coming down the birth canal (sorry if that mental image grosses anyone out). One nurse called them “stork bites”. They are already significantly lighter, and hopefully will disappear soon.
sleeping

I think n looks a lot like k when she was born. Here his eyes are actually open.

k has been having a difficult time with the adjustment this far. This was the first picture she would let us take with the baby. (She was wearing her Cal shirt in support of their debut in the NCAA tourney. I guess it didn’t work.)

Waiting

Well, I expected that I would be in the hospital by now, but apparently baby n has other plans. We’re crossing our fingers for this weekend for various reasons. In the meantime, we’re sticking close to home. Here are some things I’ve been meaning to post from the past week. Might as well blog now, while I have the time, right?

Last week k and I participated in Orange County Restaurant Week at the Wolfgang Puck Bistro @ South Coast Plaza for lunch. For $10 we enjoyed a mixed green salad, turkey club sandwich, and a trio of cookies. (Usually the sandwich is $10 by itself!) I told k that we should get a box so that we could save part of the sandwich for daddy. Her response? “No box, eat now!” Well, it was a big sandwich, so we did save part of it, plus we shared the cookies with D, too.

Last weekend we had what we thought was our last weekend outing as a threesome at Bella Terra. I wanted to try the cupcakes at Starbucks. It was pretty, so I had to take a picture:

It tasted good, too. I’ve never had a Sprinkles cupcake, or any other “trendy” cupcake, for that matter, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to.

Very Pregnant
I don’t have many pictures of pregnant me, so I had D take this one last night to commemorate my hugeness.

Preparing for Baby

This weekend has been filled with anticipation and preparation for baby #2. I threw out trash, went to Goodwill, got gas, put in baby seats, finished my taxes, prepared to send my property tax reassessment, and today I am going to get a haircut.

Since we will be busy, I also wanted to get some blogging out of the way. I have noticed that when I set goals, I am more productive. So here are some updated goals; some I am doing OK, others I am not.

Network with my KSOB classmates. (My LinkedIn & Facebook network is blowing up)
Work at Mazda (3 years in April!)
Half & Full Marathon (signed up for Long Beach; 2nd H.M. in 9 minute pace?)
Bible Study Fellowship (4th year; hoping I don’t get kicked out for missing too many sessions!)
Baja Missions (Well not this year!)

Finally, L and I are planning on going to Utah in the fall. Thought I might put it on my blog, so L won’t want to back out. =)
