Mother’s Day/Dad’s Birthday

Last week my grandma had a stroke, so my parents went up to visit her this past weekend. At first I thought that meant we would have to cancel our planned Mother’s Day/Dad’s birthday celebration. However, I rescheduled it for Sunday night and everyone made it, so that was nice. We had take-out from Zankou’s.

U-Pick Strawberries

On Friday we went with my moms’ group to Tanaka Farms in Irvine for their strawberry tour. This was k’s third time! It was the first time, however, that the kids could actually pick the berries and take them home in a basket. The previous two years there were not enough strawberries, so it was just “eat as many as you can while you are out in the field for 15 minutes”. (n hung out with my mom in the shade…it was pretty hot that day).

After a brief hesitation, k ate her fill of strawberries. She wasn’t too keen on the picking part, so I picked, and she ate. I tried to fill k’s basket to the brim, but a lot of them ended up bruising. I think I picked ones that were a little overripe, too (you know, the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice?)

In the future I would like to go apple or cherry picking–I’ve never done that before.

Spring Cleaning

Today D sat out in front of our complex for about four hours selling some of our unwanted “stuff” for our community yard sale. His total haul? Just over $30. Not bad, since he also did a lot of his BSF, talked to the neighbors, helped our community and we were able to get rid of some of the things that were weighing us down. I’m glad that D is the type of person that I could send out to do this sort of thing. He then drove the leftovers to Goodwill.

k is becoming more affectionate with “baby Nini”. This is how she likes to hold him (by the look on his face, he doesn’t enjoy this too much). I can’t wait until they can become friends!

5 Year Anniversary!

Hard to believe, but last Friday was our five year wedding anniversary. We celebrated by going out to dinner at Spaghettini’s on Sunday, sans kids. We chose this place because: 1. D had never been, and he was always saying he wanted to go. 2. It’s very close to my parents’ place (aka the babysitters). 3. They are having a special all April and May on Sunday nights where pastas and salads are 50% off! The waitress told us to tell everyone we know about the deal, so here you go!

I had the butternut squash ravioli and D had the seafood pasta. Mine was a little too sweet for my liking (tasted kind of like pumpkin pie). We also shared a walnut apple blue cheese salad–very tasty.

Crabby Soul

Today n is one month old. Poor thing has infant acne and cradle cap, so he isn’t too attractive. Plus, he doesn’t seem happy unless he is feeding or sleeping. My mom’s 1975 copy of La Leche League’s “Nursing Your Baby” hit it on the head when it says, “a one-month-old baby is often a rather crabby soul”.

The blurriness of the picture nicely hides his complexion. 🙂

Easter Festivities

Yesterday we started out the day with an egg hunt for k in our family room. Even with all of the practice, k still wasn’t too sure about hunting for eggs with all of the other kids after service. She definitely is not agressive by nature. Before service our church had a breakfast and craft for the kids. After church, we went to my parents’ house for lunch. When we were done eating, the guys watched the rest of the Masters’ Tournament, and the rest of us (and n) just talked and played. It is so nice to have a relaxing afternoon like that.

First Easter
Baby’s First Easter outfit from brother in law’s grandma. Check out the feet…too cute. And on the back, there is a little cottontail. I know we can’t get away with outfits like this for too long, so might as well do it when we can, right?

Egg Hunt
I’m glad k agreed to wear this hat some of the time this year. Last year was a no-go. I like the idea of a new dress for Easter. I remember having a new one every year, sometimes made by my mom. I bought this one for k during the after-Easter sales last year. I already have k’s dress for next year!

Cypress Egg Hunt

First off, Happy Easter, everyone! It is fun now that k can get into the Easter egg hunts and bunnies. However, it will be even more exciting when she can appreciate why we celebrate Easter–Jesus’ death and resurrection!

Yesterday we went to an egg hunt sponsored by the city of Cypress. It was much larger than I expected. For the 0-3 year olds, there was a mini obstacle course. Not surprisingly, k was not too keen on the idea. D did manage to get her to go through the tunnel, though.

At the end of the course, a volunteer threw two plastic eggs on the ground for k to pick up. I was just starting to complain to D about the fact that I thought two eggs was kind of chintzy, when k got really excited that she could hear something inside the eggs. In one, there was a small toy compass, and she squealed with delight. This made me stop and realize that I was setting a bad example of being appreciative. After all, the event was free, so I had nothing to complain about. (Plus, there were free hot dogs and punch!) k is still at the age when she gets really excited about the little things, and I need to try to preserve that as long as possible.
