n’s 1st Birthday Party

March really flew by for us. Here’s the recap of n’s first birthday party. We had it at my parents’ house. The theme was Paul Frank’s Julius the Monkey and the colors were supposed to be light red and blue. n wore an outfit that one of my college roommates had given to n (thanks j!) We had hotdogs (Nathan’s!), chili and rice (how JA, I know). My dad also bought some sausages from Mattern Sausage & Meats in Orange. My mom made a mini cake for n, and there were also cookies, cupcakes, rice krispy treats and finger jello. There were a lot of little boys, and they seemed to enjoy exploring the house/yard. One tried to escape over the fence. My sister found them in the laundry room and asked what they were doing. They responded, “Making plans!” Hmmm…

We set up a sandbox in an underbed storage box.

A different college roommate helped me make these toothpick flags. (Thanks, l!) She really came over to watch basketball, but I put her to work šŸ™‚

Happy 1st Birthday, n!

Yesteray we celebrated n’s first birthday with Chinese food and cupcakes.
1st birthday
This year truly flew by so quickly. I can’t believe that one year ago I was in the hospital and k met her brother for the first time. n and k are still learning how to get along together, but it warms my heart when I see them making each other laugh. n is now sleeping 10 hours and then 1-2 hours more at night. His eczema is a challenge, but we’re hopeful that he will grow out of it. He is a curious guy, and doesn’t take no for an answer. He is just starting to enjoy eating solid foods (he really liked the corned beef we had for dinner tonight). His bangs grow in the shape of a triangle. The most common adjective people use to describe him is “sweet” (like when he leans his head into my chest when I hold him). Happy birthday, n!

As a side note, here are the Olympic mascots that sit by our tv. I am sad that they have received absolutely NO exposure on tv so far. Not even in the Opening Ceremony, unless I missed it? They are so cute!

He’s 6 Months Old!

Taking a break from recounting our trip to wish a happy 6 month birthday to our little n.

6 months
I had my mom buy dessert at Zion so we could celebrate. Too bad n couldn’t have any.

n is over 18 pounds, and slowing down in his weight gain. That might be because he is already mobile! He can already do the army crawl, but he is still working on sitting. He’s still waking up at night, but has gone 5-6 hours on occasion. If he’s not tired or hungry, he’ll go to anyone. He’s our Mr. Smiley!

Hello September

This picture is for D’s co-worker who moved back to Japan. She left behind this Hello Kitty pillow for k and wanted to know how it’s doing. Here it is!

People often ask how k is adjusting to having a little brother. There are definitely ups and downs. Take, for instance, this lovely picture of the two of them. Sometimes, k says she loves n. She comforts him when he cries, saying “It’s ok…mommy will come back.” She loves to help give him a bath and feeding him.

But on the other hand, there are the times when she says “I don’t love him anymore.” She’s quick to take away any toy he is playing with, declaring “That’s mine!” Fortunately, n is at the age where he usually doesn’t mind too much. Not looking forward to when he starts fighting back! He is growing up too fast…I can feel the beginnings of a tooth poking through his bottom gum!
