Everyone in my family really enjoyed this assortment of caramels and chocolates. McCrea’s caramels have a rich flavor and the quality of their simple ingredients is top notch. For example, here is the ingredient list for their Classic Vanilla Caramels:

Fresh Milk, Fresh Cream, Cane Sugar, Inverted Cane Sugar, Tapioca Syrup, Butter (cream, salt), Molasses, Vanilla Extract (alcohol 35%), Salt.

The fresh milk and cream that they use in their caramels definitely comes through in the flavor so that they are not one-dimensionally sweet.

I love the classic design of the packaging, which makes this box feel like a special gift. With both caramels and chocolates, this gift box has something for everyone to enjoy.

For the caramel aficionado, McCrea’s also offers a wide variety of caramels in unique flavors. Too much screen time is something that everyone in our family struggles with. It seems that we are not alone in this battle, as there is a statistic that COVID-19 has caused a 500% increase in screen time for kids. With much of school being virtual and the increased reliance on online learning platforms, this statistic is unfortunately not too surprising. On top of “required” screen time necessary for school and work, we also turn to our screens for entertainment.

The Circle Home Plus is easy to set up and plugs right into your Wi-Fi router. Once connected, the Circle Home Plus automatically detects all of the internet-connected devices in your home. I was astounded to find out that we have twenty-four such devices between our four family members. I had never bothered to count them before, so that was a real eye-opener.

I installed the Circle App on my phone which allows me to manage the connected devices even when I am not at home.

As you can see here, there is a bedtime feature that allows the internet connection to be turned on/off at whatever time you choose. There are also age-appropriate filters that can help prevent unwanted harmful content from entering your home through the internet.

You can even pause or temporarily turn off internet connectivity for a single family member or everyone at once. That would be a fast way to send a message!

There is also a feature called Focus Time that restricts access to certain sites for specific time periods where your student is supposed to distance learning of doing homework.

For my family, I think the best part about Circle Home Plus is that it monitors our internet usage and that we have the freedom to easily make adjustments according to our needs. While I want our family to be able to rely on the internet as a useful tool, my goal is for it not to be the master of our lives.

I had so much fun attending the Online Nourished Festival a few weeks ago. I always enjoy hearing about new allergen-friendly products and learning about ways to live a healthier lifestyle. One of the brands that I discovered was Sam’s Famous Salsa. According to the website, their salsas originated with a family recipe that is over one hundred years old!

Sam’s Famous Salsa comes in three different heat levels: Mild, Medium and Hot. I am not sure if my family is just used to spicy foods, but we thought the Medium tasted more like Mild and that the Hot tasted more like Medium.

Due to the use of fresh ingredients, Sam’s Famous Salsa needs to be kept refrigerated. They do not use any artificial flavors or preservatives and it is quite evident in the taste! I thought the texture of the salsa was just perfect-a little chunky, but easy to scoop up with some tortilla chips. We also tried the salsas with quesadillas and they added a real flavor punch. This salsa seriously did not last long in my house; my family gobbled it up.

Using chalk to create chalk art on our driveway is one of the activities that the kids returned to during this past year spent mostly at home. Chalk Alive is a set that adds excitement to ordinary chalk art.

This Chalk Alive set comes with 6 washable chalks, 3 reusable stencils and 3 live animations. As you can see, this particular set features a lion, dolphin and tiger, but there are also other sets with a unicorn/mermaid/butterfly and rocket/racecar/dinosaur.

The chalk comes in vibrant colors and is easy to use with the included stencils. My daughter downloaded the free app on her phone and took a picture of my son’s chalk drawing. The app makes the drawing come to life, as shown below. So cool!

This is a great outdoor activity for kids. I like that Chalk Alive combines art, technology and creativity. The recommended age range is for 5 years and up.

One of the many brands that I learned about at the Online Nourished Festival was Otto’s Naturals. This family-run business makes Cassava Flour, which is a grain-free replacement for wheat flour. Cassava flour is made from 100% Yuca root and it is gluten-free, grain-free and nut-free.

Otto’s Naturals sent me some of their Cassava Flour, along with their Grain-Free Ultimate Cookie Mix (which is also made with Cassava Flour).

The Ultimate Cookie Mix is super easy to use. All you have to do is stir together the mix, 1 egg, 1/2 cup of melted butter (or dairy-free alternative), 1 teaspoon of vanilla and up to 1 cup of mix-ins of your choice. I made “Kitchen Sink” cookies by mixing in candy coated chocolates, chocolate chips and broken pretzel pieces-yum! They turned out delicious and no one in my family could tell that I used a different type of flour. I am looking forward to using the Otto’s Naturals Cassava Flour in some pancakes or waffles next.
