We had to postpone our trip to San Diego during Christmas break by one week since D was sick. We ended up going after church on Sunday and staying one night. However, by the time we arrived at San Diego Zoo at about 2 p.m. in the afternoon, it was crazy crowded. We had to circle the parking lot for a really long time and finally lucked out when a bus was leaving, freeing up about four spaces at once!
One of the highlights of this trip was seeing a hippo swim underwater.
The kids liked this holiday acrobatic performance. It made me dizzy just watching them.
We also went to a show that required audience participation which was quite corny.
There was a seven week old giraffe that was so adorable. Look at how small it is compared to the mom!
It kept sprinting back and forth, testing out its legs.
We listened to some holiday music.
I was expecting a little more from the holiday light show, but I had to remind myself that this is not Disneyland!
We had dinner at Carnitas’ Snack Shack. This is the Triple Threat sandwich, described as: “A trifecta of pork stacked on a Kaiser roll from Sadie Rose Bakery: a chicken-fried pork cutlet, slow roasted pulled pork and slices of applewood-smoked bacon, topped with home made pepperoncini and pickle relish. It could be overkill; it’s not.” The four of us shared only this and the burger. I enjoyed eating in the cute courtyard in back of the “shack”.
We used some of D’s Marriott points to stay overnight at Fairfield Inn in Carlsbad. We took full advantage of the free breakfast. Yes, n wore his robe!
DIY blueberry waffles!
In the morning, we stopped at the Carlsbad Outlets. D scored a long sleeved quarter zip running shirt for $10 at the Nike Outlet (orig. $65).
