More Adventures With k

windmill
On Saturday morning we headed out nice and early to play miniature golf (or “putt-putt” as D likes to say) in a fundraising tournament for WPC missions. Actually, D played, along with my parents. I pushed k around the course in her stroller, which was not an easy task.

Bolsa Chica
Saturday afternoon we went to a beach party at Bolsa Chica–k’s 2nd beach!

D had his first Father’s Day yesterday and I just realized that we didn’t take a picture of him and k 🙁

I Loved Her First

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it’s still hard to give her away
I loved her first

–Heartland, chorus from “I Loved Her First”

D was singing this the other day and it made us both kind of sad. I know, she’s not even six months and we’re already thinking about her leaving us! I guess it’s just a good reminder to cherish every day.

At Last…She’s Sleeping Through the Night

This past week k, and consequently I, have been getting a lot more sleep at night. I think we can officially say that she “sleeps through the night” now! Although she still wakes up 1-2 times, she is able to go back to sleep by herself. We’re talking eleven hours! It seems like a miracle. I know the books say babies should be able to do that by three months, but I think k just wasn’t ready.

We didn’t do anything too exciting last weekend, but here are a couple of pictures from the past week.

Rolling Over

This morning we found k on her stomach. We always put her to sleep on her back, so we knew she had rolled over during the night. It wasn’t a fluke, as she continued to perform this new trick throughout the day. (She’s been rolling over from her stomach to her back for a while, but back to stomach seems like a bigger accomplishment).

Memorial Day Weekend

Things haven’t gone exactly as planned so far, but we have still managed to enjoy the holiday weekend.

On Saturday, we went to Irvine Spectrum. First problem: we forgot the stroller, because D has been switching cars and *someone* didn’t put it in the trunk. Second problem: my shoes were giving me blisters so I couldn’t walk too much. Third problem: we were planning to drop off k at her Uncle’s place and watch Shrek, but the tickets for the 4 p.m. showing cost $11!! I know we haven’t been to the movies for a while, but I thought that was ridiculous. So, we just did a little shopping, scrapped the movie idea, dropped off k, and went to look at some model homes. (We’re planning to see an a.m. showing of Shrek tomorrow for $5 at AMC). Then we ate dinner with my sister and brother-in-law at Mustard Cafe (the guys had “Pastrami OC” sandwiches, which they seemed to enjoy very much).

Spectrum
A stranger offered to take a family picture of us at the Spectrum when she saw I was going to take a picture of just D and k. I thought that was nice and it made me think that I should offer to do that for others more.

Today we were planning to go to Huntington Beach, but ended up at Seal Beach. k seemed to be getting a lot of attention wherever we went.

Tanaka Farms

Today k and I went to Tanaka Farms with our MnM’s group. We took a tour on the tractor, which k seemed to enjoy. Too bad she’s not old enough to taste the produce.

Here we are with a green onion.

strawberry plant
Tanaka Farms is famous for their strawberries. This year, however, half of their crop succumbed to a fungus. 🙁 We were still able to sample some of the good ones off the vine. Notice that they plant onions among the strawberries. The odor keeps the bugs away!

banana tree
They also grow organic bananas, although it is too cold here for them to really thrive.

Afterward, we visited D at his office since we were close by. k was able to meet a lot of D’s co-workers.

Five Months!

Yesterday k turned five months old. This past month went by pretty fast. k had her first solid food, turned over from her stomach to her back and learned how to sit up. It is so fun to watch her develop. For those who do not have DSL and could not watch the “first meal” video, here are some pictures of k eating rice cereal. She seems to enjoy her new high chair, which is really a booster seat that straps onto a regular chair–genius!
