During lunch today, D got his “pre-race” haircut. In other words, it’s really short. Really, really short. So much so, that when D came home tonight, k did not recognize him. When he tried to hold her, she started to cry and had a look on her face that said “Who is this scary man, and what have you done to my Daddy?”
Engagement
Saturday morning we went up to Burbank for an engagement ceremony/reception for one of my dearest friends. It was held at the Castaway. Traffic was bad so I thought we would be late, and I was stressing. However, it turns out the Pastor was caught in traffic too, and he was even later, so we had plenty of time!
(Too bad the groom-to-be’s eyes are closed, but I do think this is a really nice picture of the bride-to-be. These girls and I all lived in an apartment in Berkeley at one point). I gave a speech during the reception. Thankfully, it went OK, but I guess some people wanted it to be “juicy”, which it definitely was not.
The restaurant is on a hill, so there is a really nice view.
Afterward we stopped at Porto’s Bakery in Burbank, our first time. Parking was difficult, but it was worth it!
I ordered a bunch of stuff to go (since we had just eaten lunch): mango smoothie, potato balls, medianoche sandwich, cheese rolls, guava cheese pastry, and individual servings of tres leches cake and mango mousse. The cake and mousse were amazing. I defintely would like to go back.
The Joy of Eating
Yes, we are still eating that watermelon! It turns out that k enjoys watermelon, too. It’s interesting (and sometimes frustrating) to figure out what k’s likes and dislikes are in terms of food. So far, she likes peas, green beans, watermelon, Cheerios, and Gerber Graduates “stars” (puffed cereal). k dislikes applesauce and peaches. Go figure.
Summer Fun
I cannot believe summer is more than half way over. The other day I bought a watermelon–the receipt said it was over 19 pounds…that’s more than k! I thought it would be fun to take a picture as a comparison. k enjoyed thumping on it.
This past week I also baked a cake for a potluck at D’s work. I decided to get a little creative with it:
k the Crawler
For a little over a week now, k has been crawling! It is amazing to see how quickly she acquires new skills. She can also stand up in her play pen and crib (although she has some trouble sitting back down). It is already more tiring to watch her since you constantly have to be on your guard.
Just Say No
Trying to Crawl
k has been getting up on all fours, trying to crawl. She’s probably wondering why we cheer for her when she does this. I have a feeling that once she does start crawling everywhere, we’ll long for the days where we could just plop her down and she would stay in one place.
Also, her first tooth is just barely coming in!
For some reason, Blogger is not letting me put titles on my posts. Anyway, on Sunday we acted like lemmings and met my sister and her husband at Yogurtland. When we arrived at 3 p.m. the line was out the door.
For those who haven’t followed the frozen yogurt craze, this place is different because it is self-serve (yogurt and toppings) and you pay 30 cents an ounce. It ends up being cheaper than Pinkberry if you exercise some restraint.
Here is my creation. Those marshmallow-looking things are actually mochi bits–yum! Kev and I liked the “tart” flavors while D and my sister liked the regular sweet ones better.
We also noticed these people waiting next store for Taiko to open at 4:30. That must be some seriously good Japanese food if people are willing to bring stadium chairs and wait a couple of hours for the place to open! D has been there for lunch and it made his “list”.
Afterward we went to Debbie’s 29th birthday party at a park in Irvine. I was thankful to have k as an excuse not to play kickball!
Here’s D testing out a jogging stroller that one of our friends brought to the park…now he wants one.
We had a busy day today, most of which we will blog about later. For now, we will leave you with pictures of k “driving” our CX-7.
A (Loud!) 4th of July
We celebrated the 4th of July by hanging at Seal Beach in the morning and having a barbecue at my parents’ in the afternoon. At night it sounded like everyone and their mother was shooting off fireworks in our neighborhood. Amazingly, k slept through it all.
We like to use the carrier when we go to the beach since strollers and sand don’t work too well. It was amazing how much bigger k looked in the carrier this time.
A tisket, a tasket, a baby with a green and yellow onesie in a basket.
It’s getting hot in here…
…so take off all your clothes (except for your diaper)!
