14 Months Old!

This is k again. I am 14 months old! My parents forgot to celebrate this occasion, but that’s OK because I ate a ton tonight. I had the oldie but goodie (rice), some potstickers, garden vegetables and turkey burger patty. I ate longer than my parents again. I couldn’t figure out why my parents were eating the thick noodles and not sharing. But I digress.
I am here to tell you that I have advanced my speaking skills past Ay-Da. I say DaDa and MaMa. It is funny because I say DaDa a lot and I get everybody’s attention all the time, however the guy with the spiky hair always points to himself and repeats the word. Like he is the only DaDa! Anyway, I also say nana when I receive this curved yellow fruit. My parents get a big kick out it. They are easily amused.
Buh-bye.

If we received a $1…

…for every time someone made a comment about k’s hair, we’d be rich! Sometimes they say something directly to us. Other times we just hear them say something under their breath to the people they are with. “Look at that hair!”, “You have crazy hair”, or “My kid used to have hair like that” are all things we’ve heard. Whatever people say, k’s hair makes people smile, so that’s cool.

On an unrelated note, D and I tried Pinkberry for the first time at Bella Terra. It was not as tart as Fiore. The cashier upsold us to a medium with three toppings (we were planning on medium with one topping, but it’s only 20 cents more for three). We chose mangoes, granola and blackberries. They were a bit stingy with the blackberries–maybe it’s better to get something smaller, like blueberries. Anyway, it was just under $5, so it was not cheap, but it was a nice treat for us to share.

Bedhead

bedhead
This morning k woke up with a serious case of bedhead. She looked like a different baby because her hair in front actually went down to form bangs instead of sticking straight up and out. Notice also the tuft of hair on her left hand side that gave her a side cowlick.

Today k had her 9 month checkup. She was fussing quite a bit and had to have a shot. The doctor predicted that she will take after D & me in height/weight based on her measurements. We’ll see about that.

1/2 Year Birthday

Not only is today the longest day of the year, it is also k’s six month birthday. So, it is time for a little reflection. k has been such a blessing to D and I this past half year. Sure, it’s been rough at times (especially in the beginning). However, watching her personality develop and physical progress makes it all worth it. For example, it is so cute to watch her when D comes home from work. She kicks her legs, flaps her arms and starts hyper-ventilating with a huge grin.

6 months
I made pineapple-banana cupcakes with pineapple buttercream frosting to celebrate. Of course, k couldn’t have any, but she seems pleased nonetheless.

boxers
This afternoon, k was “helping” me fold the laundry, including D’s boxers–haha. Recently she has been sticking out her tongue when she’s happy, as shown here.

More Adventures With k

windmill
On Saturday morning we headed out nice and early to play miniature golf (or “putt-putt” as D likes to say) in a fundraising tournament for WPC missions. Actually, D played, along with my parents. I pushed k around the course in her stroller, which was not an easy task.

Bolsa Chica
Saturday afternoon we went to a beach party at Bolsa Chica–k’s 2nd beach!

D had his first Father’s Day yesterday and I just realized that we didn’t take a picture of him and k 🙁

I Loved Her First

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it’s still hard to give her away
I loved her first

–Heartland, chorus from “I Loved Her First”

D was singing this the other day and it made us both kind of sad. I know, she’s not even six months and we’re already thinking about her leaving us! I guess it’s just a good reminder to cherish every day.

At Last…She’s Sleeping Through the Night

This past week k, and consequently I, have been getting a lot more sleep at night. I think we can officially say that she “sleeps through the night” now! Although she still wakes up 1-2 times, she is able to go back to sleep by herself. We’re talking eleven hours! It seems like a miracle. I know the books say babies should be able to do that by three months, but I think k just wasn’t ready.

We didn’t do anything too exciting last weekend, but here are a couple of pictures from the past week.
