Last night we tested out our REI Basecamp 4 tent in my parents’ backyard. We learned that a. It takes k a long time to settle down before going to sleep in a tent; b. We should zip up the tent ALL of the way to avoid mosquitoes; and c. We need to buy sleeping mats (we had one air mattress, but k kept rolling off). It was still fun piling up a bunch of blankets and snuggling in the crisp air. We’re looking forward to our first “real” campout next month.
Good Times
On Friday, my mom, k and I took a walk to the park I used to play at near my parents’ house. k is starting to like the swings now.
Towards the end she started nodding off!
Today D took care of k from the early morning until 4 p.m. while I was at a womens’ conference at church.
This is what happens when D dresses k…she turns into a tomboy!
Afterward we had my parents watch k so D and I could have “date night”. We went to Old Town Seal Beach and ate at Beachwood BBQ. D had the combo plate with ribs and brisket (beans and grilled corn on the cob on the side) and I had a pulled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries on the side. Of course, we shared everything.
I liked the pretzel bun that my sandwich came on and the chicken was nice and smoky.
It was cool how each table had a set of sauces to play with.
D liked the “spicy” for the brisket and the “vinegar” for the ribs. We ended up finishing everything, but we were definitely satisfied at the end. Overall, it has a casual/stylish vibe…kind of reminded me of the Counter’s ambience. I think D will be making room for this place on his List.
A Security…Pedometer?
k doesn’t really have a security blanket or stuffed animal. However, she has, as of late, become attached to her pedometer. It’s funny, because she always takes off her barrettes and hats and shoes, but she’ll wear the pedometer all day. She even wants to put it back on after she takes a bath. If you’re curious, k logs just under 8,000 steps a day.
1st Haircut
Looking at that last picture of “princess k”, I decided that k was in need of a haircut. I gave her bangs a trim, which she seemed to enjoy. Maybe because she can see now. Her hair was fine when pulled back with a barrette or band, but she usually took it out.
A little short, but it’s cute on her, I think.
Princess k
k enjoys sitting on her throne at church.
For dinner yesterday we went to McCormick & Schmick’s at the Garden Walk in Anaheim. (Yes, we had a gift certificate). So far, there are only restaurants open. Before dinner we checked out the Stadium lofts, just for fun. Should be interesting to see how that area continues to develop.
The 16 Month Old Omnivore
After the race yesterday we went out to eat with my parents and k. While we were waiting for our food, k indicated that she wanted to eat the lemons that D had brought over from the condiment bar. I thought that if we gave her a taste, she would realize that they don’t taste good, and she would wait for our real food. Nope. She took a bite, made a face, and then proceeded to try to eat the whole thing, rind and all.
Pigtails!
k’s hair is getting long enough to play with now. Here she is sportin’ some pigtails. I used to hate when my my mom put my hair in pigtails. I think I thought I looked like Yoda, or something. I feel like I should enjoy doing things like this now, before k can complain. She does tend to take the hair bands out, though (she leaves barrettes in longer).
Adventures with a Toddler
I’ve decided that k and I need to get out more. I think that before I had this mentality that fun things should be saved for the weekends, when we have D to accompany us. However, I think that k will benefit from weekday outings, and if it is really fun, we can always go again, with D. Today we went to a local park to feed ducks. (I brought along some stale bread). k tried to feed the ducks by attempting to get up close, but they would waddle away from her. She hasn’t mastered throwing yet.
She’s Crafty
This morning I took k to her first storytime at the library. There were almost twenty kids! The theme was “spring”.
k’s First Craft–I hope she grows up to like crafts like me and Sasa.
It feels weird that St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are so close together. On Monday I “made” corned beef (i.e. I put a pre-marinated hunk of meat from Costco in the slow cooker). It was pretty tasty, especially accompanied by some roasted potatoes, salad and ciabatta. D wanted to know if there was corn in it. No, dear.
Urgent Care
Last night I took k to Urgent Care because she hurt her wrist. I was sitting on the couch, and she was standing next to the couch. I got up, and we bumped into each other. I guess her hand/arm was in a bad position because she yelped out in pain and started crying. I wasn’t able to calm her down like I usually do when she gets hurt, and she was grabbing her wrist. I called the doctor’s office, and the nurse could hear her crying. Since it was 5:30 and the office was closed, she advised me to give k Tylenol and go to Urgent Care. She was supposed to get four x-rays (2 of each arm) but k would not sit still! The tech could only take one, and the doctor wanted a radiologist to look at it since baby’s bones are hard to read. Today we had to go back to take another x-ray. There were two techs, so one was able to help me pin k down. She seemed much better today and was using her arm, and good news–no fracture! Scary stuff, this parenthood thing.
