As I mentioned before, I really missed being able to attend Expo West this year. However, I am grateful to still be able to connect with some of the companies that were supposed to attend. One such company is Baja Jerky, which is a local Orange County company specializing in premium beef jerky.

Today I am sharing another discovery from my New Hope Blogger Box: Otamot Organic Essential Sauce. Our family has pasta, usually with tomato sauce, about once a week. It is definitely one of our staple meals. Therefore, I was excited about trying Otamot (that’s tomato, spelled backwards!) sauce.

I love the story behind the company. A dad wanted his picky daughter to eat more nutrients, so he invented Otamot sauce, which contains vegetables, vitamins, antioxidants and no added sugar.

Otamot sauces come in the following delicious flavors:

• Spicy Organic Sauce
• Organic Carrot Bolognese Sauce

I really like the cheerful distinctive packaging design. Even better is that the wholesome ingredient list is right on the front of the label. Look at all of those organic vegetables! I think most people could benefit from increasing their vegetable intake, and Otamot sauce is a delicious way to do so. Another benefit is that each serving contains 6 grams of dietary fiber.

Otamot Organic Essential Sauce was a hit with my family. I thought it might be a difficult adjustment from other jarred sauces since it does not contain any added sugar. Although the Otamot sauce does have a more savory taste, the carrots, sweet potato and butternut squash add a natural sweetness. We tried the sauce on pasta, but the label also suggests that it can be used for pizza, dips, and soups. I cannot wait to experiment more with the different varieties of Otamot sauces and incorporate more vegetables into our meals.

Have you heard of Pipsnacks? They are a family company that started out with heirloom popcorn and expanded their line to include cheese balls, corn dippers, and now…heirloom snack crackers! Just like all of their other products, Pipsnacks crackers are made from heirloom corn.

I came across Pipsnacks when I received a bag of Pipcorn Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Balls as part of the New Hope Blogger Box.

These cheese balls were an immediate hit in our house! It turns out that Pipcorn Crackers were born as a way to use the heirloom corn flour that was leftover from making their cheese balls. Love that idea of sustainable upcycling!

Our spring break officially started today, which also happens to be Pi Day! Since we are not sure how long this “break” will actually last yet (*wink*), I have been trying to think of activities that will keep us from being bored at home.

We recently had the opportunity to try out Kidstir, a subscription cooking kit for kids. We received the March 2020 box and the theme was Pi or “pie”. This box included a Kidstir apron, a “Perfect Pie Cutter” and special pie-themed labels. In addition, the box included colorful recipe pages for:

These pages also include fun factoids and activities for the kids and tips for their adult helpers. The binder shown in these pictures is one that I already had.) I like the idea of kids having a notebook of tried and true recipes. This is something that my mom has already started doing with my kids.

Fun Day Frittata Pie

Although we eat eggs quite often around here, I am not sure we have ever made a frittata before. My son is an eager helper in the kitchen; I hope this continues into adulthood! He had fun chopping the bell pepper and cracking the eggs. Although he is not usually a big fan of bell peppers or tomatoes, he ate them in the frittata because he helped make it. (Isn’t it funny how that works?) We ate this delicious frittata for dinner and had a little bit left over for breakfast the next day. Our family thought this recipe called for a too much salt, but that is part of the recipe-testing process. It shows kids how recipes sometimes need to be adjusted to fit your own personal taste.

Primo Pasta Pie

I would never have thought to make pasta into a “pie”, so this was an especially fun recipe to try. My kids like to watch cooking competition shows and we are always impressed with the presentation. This recipe called for a springform pan, which my son had never used before. I was amazed that one box of cooked rigatoni pasta, stood upright, fit perfectly into the pan! There is also a recipe to make smaller versions in a mug, which is useful if you do not own a springform pan.

Chill Out Choco Pie

Of course, you cannot have a pie theme without a pie for dessert, right? This Chill Out Choco Pie is simple to make, even for younger kids. It is always amazing to watch heavy cream turn into whipped cream simply by incorporating air.
